Reality Check on Multiple Myeloma

Market access for multiple myeloma treatments reveals differences in payer coverage across each major channel, as well as specific trends in the drug landscape.

To help make sense of this new research, MMIT's team of experts has analyzed the data for you and summarized the key findings:

  • Payer Insights: Under the pharmacy benefit, about 51% of the lives under commercial formularies are covered with utilization management restrictions
  • Class Trends: In August 2020, the FDA gave accelerated approval to GlaxoSmithKline’s Blenrep (belantamab mafodotin-blmf) for adults with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have received at least four prior therapies, including an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody, a proteasome inhibitor and an immunotherapy agent
  • Key Findings: Many different drugs to treat multiple myeloma are available. The choice and dose of drug therapy depend on many factors, including the stage of the cancer, the age of the patient, kidney function of the patient and if a stem cell transplant is planned
